Gifted and Talented Weather Balloon Launch
Over the past month, the gifted and talented students have collaborated to create a High Altitude Weather Balloon Unit that elevated to 30,367 m (99,629ft.) In December, the group took a survey about weather balloons and if it would be fun to create their own. Obviously the answer to that survey was yes. They started building a payload which consisted of trackers, cameras, and other technology. A payload is what the balloon carries. They also included a bag of garlic bread in the payload. The payload was built out of a styrofoam box and they made logos to put on it. The balloon was launched at noon on Wednesday, and was retrieved later that day by the students just outside of Saint Francis, Kansas.
